edited-Djokovic wins to overtake Federer

Novak Djokovic beat Roger Federer in three sets to take the world number two ranking and founded the Indian Wells final against Rafael Nadal.

23 years Serbia will replace the 16-time Grand Slam champion Federer in the rankings after a 6-2 3-6 6-3 win at BNP Paribas Open semifinals.

Djokovic took his record to 17-0 in 2011 and next faces Nadal, after beating Spaniard Juan Martin del Potro.

Nadal, the top seed recovered from a slow start to beat Argentina 6-4 6-4.

This is the first time the pair met since the 2009 U.S. Open semi-finals, Del Potro win before going on to take first Grand Slam title.

A wrist injury then meant he lost nearly all of 2010, but he has seen the return to something approaching the best in recent weeks.

He was given a helping hand early in Saturday’s first semi-final after Nadal made a slow start, losing the chance break points in the opening game before dropping serve himself some time later.

World number one in trouble at 4-1 down but gathered himself an impressive sweep of five straight games when he took the set with a forehand do much damage.

A single break at 2-2 in the second as Nadal was enough to see out the victory to end a three-game losing streak against Del Potro and closing in on the third Indian Wells title.

Djokovic had defeated him for this year and has had better than Federer in the last meeting, including a victory in the United States and the Australian Open semi-finals and finals of Dubai.

The pattern continued in the California desert as Djokovic movement and relentless pressure from the baseline has been repeatedly Federer shot, a forehand into the net to surrender the first break at 2-2.

Serbia raced brilliantly to recover in the next game 15-40 and closed the set after 44 minutes, with a spectacular winner on the internet sparked a big fist pump.

Federer had to find some inspiration itself, and it comes with a rasping forehand winner down the line, accompanied by a growl of “Come on!”, When he broke in game three of the second set, and the Swiss broke again to take the set and the third power.

A brilliant game took more twists and turns in the determination of the two men are now regularly producing moments of magic, with Federer dropped serve at the start, roared back with a break to love for 2-2, then double-faulting again left in the third -2.

But Djokovic, who took the initiative, run of 11 straight points, earning him three chances to break double before thumping forehand converted all three of them.
